Planning a high school reunion?

It’s been 5, 10, 20, or even 50 years since you and your friends graduated from high school - but you still feel that exam-day pressure whenever you think about planning your high school reunion? Baymont by Wyndham Pompton Plains Wayne has hosted dozens of high school reunions and our A+ staff are experts on developing a memorable experience.

When planning a high school reunion, it’s so important to start early (twelve months in advance) and be professional with your announcements and invitations. You want your classmates to look anticipate this day!

  • Find your classmates and their contact info: you may use LinkedIn to find alumni, create a Facebook group, and contact the alumni association from your school.

  • Pick a date: the most well-known dates are in Sept and October (because of homecoming and football games) as well as around Thanksgiving and Christmas (when classmates head back to their hometown for the holidays). Many high school reunions are hosted Saturday night to allow for out-of-town classmates to travel in. 

  • Create a team: Chairperson, Treasurer, Promoter, and Producer

  • Create an event page/website to promote the reunion and allow classmates to buy tickets, we recommend Eventbrite.com

The Reunion Weekend

At Baymont by Wyndham Pompton Plains/Wayne, we will assist you to create a menu and hotel room group block for your high school reunion weekend. 

  • Pick a date and create a hotel room block for both Friday and Saturday nights. Set a deadline for RSVPs so you can coordinate with the venue.

  • Have a casual meet-up for the classmates that arrive the evening before in our Manhattan Lounge.

  • Plan a day trip to the high school and favorite neighborhood hang outs.

  • Opt for a dinner buffet menu, so this will allow for classmates to socialize, sit with their buddies, dance, and reminisce about their high school days. For smaller reunions and afternoon events, we would recommend a sit-down menu.

  • Cash Bar or Open Bar? It depends upon your classmates' spending budget, hosting an open bar will increase the costs.

Tips and Tricks

  • Remember to include all costs in the ticket price (venue, caterer, DJ, photographer, decorations, etc)

  • Open a separate bank account for the high school reunion 

  • Create a special discount for those that book early

  • Use name tags with the classmates’ senior yearbook photo

  • Have the DJ create a throwback playlist
